America's re-alignment arrives at a pivotal time for Humanity. This is where the fictional story of Greatness Lost is Legend II takes place.

Following current trends Homo Sapien will probably sprial downward as it consumes resources at a pace greater than the planet can renew.  Progressives in a spasm of global community thought, started this trend in the late 1960's. Led by elites behind environmentalists - politicans all over the world, they applied community ownership principle to the oceans, Antarctica, the Moon, and beyond.  No nuclear powered rocket engines, no exploitation without license from some kind of domestic or international body. A nation that built the Empire State Building in 400 days will not finish replacing the World Trade Center in 4000!  This incredible reality is a result of ideology that believes resources are owned collectivelly.  In reality global resources are abused "collectively" three basic ways: Corruption by despotic nations, first world business-government corruption, or placed off limits by its henchman: conservation-environmental concern.

In the story after domestic re-alignment  America returns to its republican-capitalist roots just in time for a new Howard Hughes, who doesn't give Americans, and the world for that matter, a choice.  On June 19th 2014 a nuclear powered "single stage to orbit" spacecraft lifts out of "a pacific island of considerable importance" for the Moon.  Built right under the noses of the American government, its flight plan calls for a landing in Moscow four days later.  Kal Dunbar has readied four larger ships with plans to mine helium three and precious metals from the moon and beyond.

 A new alignment begins. America after 100 years of soft civil war between Progressives and its Constituion once again re-asserts its driving leadership of humanity. 

In AD 2254 the captain of the Star Ship Kandango discovers evidence its encounter with Portal has split off an alternative reality.  President Kennedy was killed on Nov 22nd 1963. He didn't die of natural causes in 1987.  President Wilson won re-election with help from a man that should have died. A third world war triggered by the Eastern Alliance's radical socialist Islamic Council occurs in 2053 killing 1.6 billion.

A key event in America not seen before, on Nov. 2nd 2012 Islamic terrorists attack in a systemic way.  First on Washington DC, destroying the House of Representatives in session, leaving the Senate intact. Dozens of schools across the US are hit, killing more than a thousand children. The scheduled national election is put on hold.  A week later a cyber attack taking down banking and communications networks. Last, just before Christmas, America's national electrical grid is disrupted.  With two thirds of Congressmen killed during the Washington attack, emergency powers are given to the President.  Early in February 2013, as several States and Americans begin to organize against progessive attempts to seize power permanently. As part of his response the President orders the FCC to take control of talk radio, end broadcast rights of "Wolf News".  Out of fear of liberty lost, a Marine Colonel seizes a radio station in Dayton Ohio calling for national resistance.  Texas activates its National Guard. The State passes a law allowing a vote by those who own a business that pays taxes to count twice, the same for citizens who have served the nation in the military, police, or fire department, for all its Congressional districts and Senate seats.  Texas using a little known provision in its annexation treaty with the US asserts its right to split into four States, each with two Senators. This will cement Senate control under conservative leaning representatives for decades.  In addition similar weighted voting law quickly pass in 9 other States.  The President is forced to leave the US and set up a government in exile in Europe. After this election, a new President armed with super-majorities in the House and Senate begins to dismantle 100 years of Progressive law in America.  After a new economic boom ensues that lasts until islamic terror rears its head in a near cataclysmic war starting in 2053.

Captain George Yakamura, confused by recent events, is concerned about nefarious statements by Portal.  He knows some events are true, but other facts appear to be false.  All of this seems to key in on one man.  He sends a probe back to 1912 to place a para intelligent nervous system implant into future NY Times reporter Walter Duranty. Implanted into a composite robot Mr. Duranty revives into a new world, one not to his liking. This man's central role in re-election of President Wilson, FDR, promotion of the former Soviet Union, and marxist principles had almost destroyed human freedom on Earth. Combined with knowledge of how Atlantis was destroyed, Yakamura in possession of genetic code of Neanderthal Man pieces together a serious flaw in human genome, man's puzzle of the ages.  The captain begins to try and stitch together a response that will save the Republic and events in the early 21st century that turned back an aggression gene imparted in certain modern humans creating an overwhelming need to control society.  Yakamura observing this dozens of times knows if technology advances too quickly for an intelligent species on Earth, and elsewhere, to entrench a consitutional republican form of government under rule of law, technological civilization is likely doomed to destruction due to excess aggression. 

Yakamura suddenly realizes, Ekalb, 39 millennia ago, started a chain of events that saved humans from extinction. Can the crew of Kandango to the same now?

A second term for Obama?     Greatness lost is a story more about today's situation than the future.  If we do not tackle today's issues in a manner that improves the human condition.  Recent events in the US do not point to an immediate second dip recession. However they do focus on problems that to date no political party has recognized.  Simply put US demographics are beginning to bite while Keynesian economics shows its dark political driven side. - Over the next 15 years 78 million babyboomers are going to retire. - Over the next 15 years number of young people entering the workforce drops by half. - Both trends are starting now, but will really accelerate by summer 2012.   - You see it now.  When George W. Bush assumed office America needed to create 280,000 jobs per month just to tread water with unemployment rate.  When Bush left office this number had dropped to 180,000, now its 125,000.  By summer 2012 its zero! A mere six months later NEGATIVE 70,000.   Think about this in terms of consumer behavior.  Older folks needing to fund retirement, with marginal savings to do so in most cases will tend to sell assets to fund ongoing cost of living.  Less young people, more likely to want to purchase that first home are fewer in number.  Older folks in retirement are much less likely to purchase new electronics, go on holidays, eat out. On the other hand half the young people as normal entering the workforce are too few in number to take up this slack.    Its the same situation that hit Japan back in 1990.  Consider what happened afterwards.  A lost decade, subpar income growth, less innovation.   How can America avoid this?   Electing Obama?  Our current situation makes it clear a choice between President Obama and likely GOP candidate Romney is a no brainer.  Romney by a mile.  I won't go into micro details, just one.  Would Romney spend trillions to keep people idle and reliant on government largesse for existence? The answer is no.  Romney would spend money, or bring in tax policy that would focus on development of the economy in a way that provides ongoing sustainable employment.  Obama's record shows the studies degree armed president took three trillion dollars and threw it at government employees.  As the money runs out, no continued employment.  This shows up in Bureau of Labor Statistics numbers that demonstrate if the workforce was the same size that it was the month Bush left office, and US Census indicated addition of 5.76 million new workers since that date, unemployment today is above 14%.  Only by artificially cutting the size of America's workforce down, has unemployment reported by government dropped.  It is a fact if the same criterion used to reach unemployment reports under the Clinton administration were used, joblessness under Obama would register at 14.4%. In other words the reported 7.6% unemployment rate when Bush left office is now at or above 14, and has been rising continually each month.  Even November statistics which provided the rosy drop of official unemployment to 8.6% actually showed a marked reduction of the overall number of people reported as working the same month.  Christmas hiring that has come to an end.  With incomes down 10% since Obama took office - and consumer debt propelling the entire Christmas increase this year, spending will not continue to drive the economy forward in 2012.  With the "middle class tax cut" coming in less than the impact of higher fuel cost, no boost from that either.  If you want proof Keynesian economics was bastardized under Obama, and has no positive impact on the economy it is staring you in the face.     The only glimmer of hope is Bernanke's easy money policy.  However 30 year fixed mortgage rate at 2% was thwarted by the debt ceiling deal a few months ago.  Refusal to lift the ceiling was painted as a threat to Social Security checks, and a threat to paying military personnel.  Nothing could have been further from the truth.  The Media amplifying Obama's false talking points allowed one of the greatest scams ever to be foisted on Americans to go forward.  The alternative to raising the debt ceiling was -no more federal government borrowing.  The Social Security Administration could have sold its Treasury Notes to fund outlay to seniors.  With aggregate US borrowing, private, and government curtailed by 48% competition for surplus savings would have been much lower.  The dollar would have soared by reason the annual US deficit would have fallen to zero.  These two factors would have led investors to seek out Social Security T-Notes as a source of secure cash flow.  With a lot more investor cash flowing into the private economy interest rates would have fallen to half of today's level.  This in turn would have revived the housing market a lot more than the case is now. Businesses would have a much easier time finding investors willing to provide start up cash.  This was all stopped by Obama's drive to keep people idle on extended unemployment, and welfare over a desperate need to provide investor cash to drive the US economy forward.  It was a shift from millions deciding where to invest to a elitist system based in Washington.  It is the same kind of nonsense that led to the collapse of the Soviet Union. A President Romney would likely support strong ideas to move our economy forward.           - Romney would radically increase immigration of skilled people into this country. He would clean up the border, and deal with illegals living in the country one way or another. - Investor tax reform, advocated by Bill Clinton and GOP candidate Herman Cain. - General tax reform, reducing US tax rates on individuals and corporations to the lowest in the world. -US conventional energy production, run of river hydro electric, nuclear power.  - Consolidate American social programs.  For example Social Security and Medicare are radically expanded in scope taking over all other means of distributing income, and providing basic medical care.  For example State unemployment insurance and Medicade end.  No more HUD assistance, no more food stamps, no more State welfare, student aide, pretty well everything is folded into one large program administered at the State level.  Combined with reform of the Pentagon these initiatives can put the US into budget surplus in less than two years.  Our taxes would be the lowest in the world positioning the nation for the investment needed for the next economic boom that will be focused on home robotics, personal robots, nano technology, and clean energy production.  America can move into a bright future.  Our political system prevented Obama from destroying it temporarily.  Looking forward the best bet to see the kinds of decisions necessary to move America out of our malaise is to remove Obama from office in 2012.
